How to Join the Boone County Bar Association
Membership qualifications are spelled out in the BCBA
Bylaws as follows: "Any member in good standing of
the Missouri Bar who resides in Boone County, Missouri, and any sitting or
retired judge of a court of record of the 13th Judicial Circuit, shall be
eligible for membership in the Association and may become a member of the
Association upon payment or waiver of dues as hereinafter provided.
University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law faculty members who are
licensed to practice law in a state other than Missouri may become
non-voting members upon payment of dues as hereinafter provided."
See the Dues page for a summary of
annual BCBA dues. Reduced dues are available for "public service" attorneys.
Dues are waived for sitting and retired judges and for members who have been
licensed at least 50 years or who are at least 75 years old.
To join the BCBA, you must fill out an enrollment
form which must be sent two places:
-
One copy of the enrollment form must be given or sent
to the Treasurer with the applicable dues payment. See the
Officers page for the Treasurer's contact
information, which also appears on the enrollment form.
-
Another copy of the enrollment form must be given or
sent to the BCBA Editor/Webmaster so that your information can be
entered in the BCBA database to ensure that you receive the
Newsletter as well as other mailed and emailed communications. See
the Officers page or the
Contact page for the Editor/Webmaster's
contact information, which also appears on the enrollment form.
The enrollment form is available in paper form at
BCBA meetings and also can be downloaded from this website in PDF format.
There is a long-standing tradition of new members being
"approved" by voice vote at meetings. However, this is just a formality, and
so long as you qualify, complete the enrollment process and pay your dues,
you will be accepted as a BCBA member.
